Here is what you get out of Clinician Supervision and Consultation in Texas and Mississippi
In clinical supervision and clinical consultation, you will experience expertise around couples, families, sexual related issues, and military populations.
As someone who's had two LMFT supervisors in two different states, I understand that supervision can look different. My first supervisor, Dr. Bevil, was a professor of 30 years at the University of Mobile. From him, I learned about self-of-therapist, exam preparation, case conceptualization, and life/work balance. While I didn't learn about private practice, I gained valuable knowledge in conducting actual therapy.
My second supervisor, Dr. Paula Boros, was also an AAMFT-approved supervisor and offered a more flexible approach. She understood the complexities of relocation, given my background as a licensed therapist and my military experience. Finding a supervisor that aligns with your goals is crucial, as it significantly influences your career trajectory.
What may distinguish me from other supervisors is my firsthand experience with diverse backgrounds, cultures, and communities, rather than just theoretical knowledge. I am compassionate, empathetic, ethical, and firm.
Clinical Consultation in Mississippi and Texas
Have you ever asked someone to proofread your work, check and make sure you locked the door, or assist you in locating something? That is my role as a consultant. You already know what you know. As a consultant for therapists, I am here to help you fill in the gaps and possibly see things from a different perspective. I offer space for support, collaboration growth. Since I started in 2015, there have only been months that I have been without consultation. I know and love therapy, but do not perceive myself to always be the expert or above asking for guidance-especially if growth is the reward. Here is where my expertise lies:
Sexual Dysfunction
Mismatch Sexual Desire/Desire Discrepancy
Transference/Countertransference
Marital Concerns/Conflict
Ethical Dilemmas
Navigating Military Families
Structure:
Individual or small group (if available)
Virtual or In person (virtual conducted via zoom)
One time, as needed or ongoing clinical consultation
Frequently asked questions:
Do I need to be in Texas for supervision?
Yes, for LMFT-Associates, supervision is only for associates within the state (Mississippi available soon). Each state has different rules, and supervision is conducted based on the guidelines of the licensing state. Consultations, however, are not restricted to one state and open to clinicians nationwide.
What is the difference between supervision and consultation?
Supervision is to prepare you to be a licensed therapist. Consultations are ongoing support for licensed clinicians seeking guidance on specific issues.
What are your rates?
Supervision for LMFT Associates is $75 for individuals and $60 for groups.
Sessions are 60 minutes for individuals and 90 for groups.
What are your clinical consultation rates?
Clinical consultation is offered in 2 tiers:
30 minutes at $45 and $75 minutes for 60 minutes
Do you offer supervision and consultation on weekends?
Yes, but in office only, on Saturday’s LHC is open.
What if I find that your style of supervision is not for me?
Not every supervisor will be revered, but it does not mean that you won't get what you need. If you feel that our relationship is not working or supervision is not helpful, I would first encourage you to communicate your concerns, to first allow adjustments to take place (if possible). Second, even though we will have a contract in place, you will be released from it, as the goal is your success as a new clinician. Ideal fit is most important for your success.
