Starting mental health counseling in Texas is a meaningful and courageous step, yet it often comes with questions, uncertainty, and mixed emotions. Whether you are seeking support for a specific concern or simply feeling drawn toward healing and personal growth, it is natural to want clarity before beginning. At Lavender Healing Center, we believe feeling informed and supported is an essential part of the therapeutic process.

This blog is designed to answer some of the most frequently asked questions we receive. Our hope is that these responses offer reassurance, transparency, and a sense of connection as you consider therapy with Lavender Healing Center.

What is therapy, and how can it help me?

Private pay therapy is a collaborative process that provides a safe, confidential space to explore thoughts, emotions, relationships, and life experiences with a trained mental health professional. Therapy is not about being “fixed,” but about gaining insight, developing coping skills, and strengthening emotional well-being. At Lavender Healing Center, therapy is client-centered and tailored to each individual’s unique needs. Healing is not one-size-fits-all, and we honor each client’s pace, values, and lived experience. Therapy can be a space where you feel heard, validated, and supported as you work toward meaningful and lasting change.

Who can benefit from therapy?

Therapy is for anyone seeking support, growth, or deeper self-understanding. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from counseling. Many clients begin therapy during seasons of transition, stress, or uncertainty, while others attend therapy to improve relationships, process past experiences, or strengthen emotional resilience.

There is no “right” reason to start therapy in Texas. Some clients come with clear goals, while others simply know something feels off. Therapy without insurance offers space to explore these experiences without judgment and to discover what healing may look like for you.

What services do you offer at Lavender Healing Center in Texas?

Lavender Healing Center in Southlake, Hurst, and Fort Worth offers a range of therapeutic and holistic services designed to support individuals, couples, and families. All services are provided ethically and within each clinician’s areas of training and clinical competency. Our approach is integrative, compassionate, and responsive to each client’s needs. We offer the following services:

Couples and marriage counseling, including premarital counseling, to support partners in strengthening communication, rebuilding trust, and deepening emotional connection.

Sex therapy is provided in an affirming and respectful environment, helping individuals and couples navigate intimacy concerns, sexual health, and relationship dynamics.

Family therapy is also available to help families improve communication, address conflict, and explore generational patterns.

In addition to traditional therapy services, Lavender Healing Center provides mediation services for individuals or families seeking structured support during conflict or transition. We also offer

Reiki, a holistic, energy-based practice that may support relaxation, emotional balance, and overall well-being when used alongside therapeutic care.

Our mental health counselors and therapists in Texas work with concerns such as anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, generational and family-of-origin issues, and faith-based counseling.

What can I expect during my first session?

Your first therapy session is an opportunity to begin building a trusting therapeutic relationship. During this session, your private pay therapist in Texas may ask about your background, current concerns, and what led you to seek therapy. You may also discuss goals, expectations, and what you hope to gain from counseling. This session is equally an opportunity for you to ask questions and determine whether the therapist feels like a good fit. Feeling nervous is completely normal, and your therapist will work to create a welcoming, supportive environment. At Lavender Healing Center, we prioritize safety, collaboration, and comfort from the very beginning.

Is therapy confidential?

Confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. What you share in sessions remains private, with limited exceptions required by law. These exceptions typically involve situations where there is concern for safety, such as risk of harm to yourself or others, or suspected abuse of a vulnerable individual.

Your therapist will review confidentiality and its limits during your first session so you have a clear understanding of your rights and protections. At Lavender Healing Center, we take privacy seriously and are committed to maintaining a safe, trustworthy space for all clients.

How long does therapy last?

The length of therapy varies based on individual goals, needs, and circumstances. Some clients attend therapy for a short period to address a specific concern, while others find longer-term support helpful. There is no predetermined timeline for healing. Progress and goals are reviewed regularly, and therapy is adjusted collaboratively. At Lavender Healing Center in Texas, we believe therapy should remain flexible and responsive, allowing clients to move at a pace that feels supportive and sustainable.

Who are the clinicians at Lavender Healing Center?

Kasey Scharnett King, LMFT-S, CST, is the Founder and Clinical Director of Lavender Healing Center. Kasey brings a decade of experience working with individuals, couples, and families across school, home, and community settings. She primarily utilizes Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) as her framework for couples and integrates additional modalities based on each client’s needs. As a wife and mother, Kasey understands how life’s responsibilities can make attending therapy challenging.

Lavender Healing Center strives to reduce barriers to care and welcomes clients to show up as they are. When needed, clients may bring their children to sessions, as the space is designed to support flexibility and inclusivity. Kasey is licensed in Texas and Mississippi and is currently accepting couples and family intensives. Her approach is affirming, compassionate, and grounded in relational healing.

Abbrielle, LMFT-Associate, is a graduate of Mid-America Christian University and offers a thoughtful, integrative approach to therapy as a faith-based clinician. During her graduate training, she worked extensively with compulsive sexual behavior, depression, anxiety, couples, family trauma, and individual therapy. Abbrielle primarily utilizes Narrative Therapy, supporting clients in exploring and re-authoring their personal stories in empowering ways.

She also integrates Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and faith-based approaches when aligned with client preferences. Abbrielle is telehealth-only, offers late evening appointments, and accepts Cigna, Aetna, and self-pay. She practices under the supervision of Kasey Scharnett King, LMFT-S, CST.

Who Do I Reach Out To?

Madeline, our Administrative Assistant, is often the first voice you will hear when you contact Lavender Healing Center. She is warm, attentive, and dedicated to helping clients feel welcomed and supported from their very first interaction.

Madeline is currently pursuing her graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling to become a therapist. Her understanding of the counseling field allows her to approach administrative support with empathy, professionalism, and care, helping make the process of getting started as smooth as possible.

What if I feel nervous or unsure about starting therapy?

Feeling nervous or uncertain about therapy is very common, especially if this is your first experience or if past experiences were challenging. Many clients worry about knowing what to say, being judged, or discussing difficult emotions. These feelings are valid and understandable. Therapy does not require you to have everything figured out. Showing up as you are is enough. Your therapist will meet you with compassion and curiosity, helping guide the process in a way that feels safe and supportive.
